Traditional estate planning asks a lot of people. It asks you to sit down with a lawyer, confront your own mortality directly, pay a fee, and then remember to update the paperwork every time your life changes. It is no surprise that most people, across every country, simply never get around to it. Remayn was built on a different premise: that the best protection for your family is the kind that requires nothing further from you once it is set up.
The problem with traditional estate planning
A will sits in a drawer or a lawyer's filing cabinet. It does not know when you have added a new bank account, opened a new mobile money wallet, or bought crypto for the first time. It does not notify your family when the time actually comes. It is a static document waiting for someone to remember it exists. Remayn is built to be the opposite: an active, quiet system that watches, and only acts when it needs to.
What passive monitoring actually means
"Passive" is the key word. Remayn does not ask you to check in weekly, confirm you are alive on a schedule, or do anything beyond using your phone the way you normally would. Every time you open the app, respond to a push notification, or unlock the app with Face ID or a fingerprint, Remayn records that as a signal of activity. You never consciously interact with the monitoring system at all. It simply observes the digital exhaust of ordinary phone use.
How inactivity detection works
You choose an inactivity threshold when you set up your account, for example 90 days, 6 months, or 12 months. Remayn tracks the most recent activity signal against that threshold. As you approach it, the system does not immediately assume the worst. It escalates carefully.
What actually triggers a disclosure
When your chosen threshold is reached without any activity, Remayn begins a structured, multi-day verification protocol rather than acting immediately. Over several days, it sends a series of attempts through different channels: push notification, SMS, email, and if configured, an alert to an emergency contact. A single tap on any one of these, at any point, immediately halts the process and resets your timer to zero. Only if every attempt across every channel goes unanswered does Remayn proceed to the final step: generating and releasing a disclosure to your verified next of kin. This is deliberately hard to trigger by accident, and deliberately fast to cancel if you are simply on a flight, in hospital, or away from your phone for a legitimate reason, which is exactly what Travel Mode exists for.
How AI helps draft the disclosure letter
Once a disclosure is confirmed, Remayn uses AI to help generate a clear, organised letter summarising exactly what you registered: which assets, which institutions, and the general legal steps relevant to accessing each one in its respective country. Rather than handing a grieving family a raw database export, the goal is a document that reads like guidance from someone who understands the situation, structured and calm rather than overwhelming. This AI-assisted drafting is a starting point for your family, not a legal document itself, and we are always transparent about it being AI-generated content rather than legal advice.
Security and encryption
Everything you register is protected with AES-256 encryption, both in transit and at rest. Access to your vault is restricted to your account alone. Even Remayn cannot read your registered asset details under normal operation, and your next of kin cannot see any of it until a disclosure is actually triggered through the full verification protocol. Nothing about this system involves Remayn holding, moving, or having access to your actual money or accounts at any point.
Why this had to be built for Africa specifically
Every existing digital legacy product on the market was designed around Western financial infrastructure: a handful of major banks, a single national probate system, assets concentrated in one country. African families do not fit that mould. They hold mobile money alongside traditional banks. They often have assets and family spread across multiple countries. They frequently operate under a mix of statutory, customary, and religious inheritance systems within a single family. Remayn's monitoring, disclosure, and asset categories were built from the ground up around this reality, not adapted from a template that assumes it away.
The result is a system that asks almost nothing of you after the first ten minutes of setup, and quietly does the one thing that matters most: making sure your family is never left guessing.
